How reading speed (WPM) is measured
Words per minute is simply the number of words you read divided by the time it took, scaled to one minute. A timed comprehension check matters just as much as raw speed. Reading quickly only counts if you actually understood the text. Most adults read between 200 and 300 WPM with full comprehension, and our tests measure both numbers so you get an honest score rather than an inflated one.
